Perfume, Body Splash, What's the Difference?

Honestly, I didn't know the difference between Eau de Toilettes and Perfume extracts were before I used the  trusty Internet 2 months ago. But now I know! And I'd like to share some facts with you! :) Read on to find out more..

Eau de Toilette

Also known as toilet water (sounds great, am I right?), Eau de Toilette is a perfume with a 4-10% of essential oils, and is the most diluted of all the types of fragrances. It's very appropriate for wearing in the day time, as it's very light, and not as strong as perfumes can be. And for the guys reading this, it's a lot lighter than cologne, so if you don't want to smother your lady with that manly perfume spray of yours, take this route.

Some of my favorites: Davidoff Cool Water (comes in one for both women and men)  and Vera Wang Princess

Eau de Parfum

The most popular type of perfume, it contains 10-18% essential oils, the rest alcohol and water. It's way more concentrated than Eau de Toilette, yet it's still not as strong as Perfume Extract. This is also more costly than Eau de Toilette, just because of the concentration. The staying power is stronger than a mere body splash, this lasts for at least 5 hours.

Some of my favorites: Viva la Juicy and Pure Turquoise by Ralph Lauren

Perfume/Parfum Extract

This is the strongest of all three types of fragrances. It contains about 20-even 50% of perfume compounds, which makes it the absolute strongest, and it lasts far longer than 8 hours. You can spritz it on in the AM, then once again before you go to sleep, and it will soon become part of your natural scent. Maybe. ;)

So, now you know. I listed all of them in the order of longevity and price. Usually, Eau de Toilette (as some people call it, body splash) is the cheapest because of the low compound amount. But they smell just as good. Feel free to spray more of the lighter ones more often opposed to the stronger ones, obviously. And now I think you're ready to go explore the world of fragrance!

Your rambling beauty addict,

Mai
