Exfoliation: Is It Essential?

(image)

Let's be honest, how many ladies really exfoliate either their faces, bodies, or both? I for one, didn't learn what exfoliation meant until about last year. But ever since, I think my skin has looked clearer and better. So what is this big word, exfoliation? Read on to find out more.

Exfoliation-the peeling off in flakes or scales of bark or dead skin.

That's essentially what exfoliation is. Everyday, new skin skin cells grow and turn over because our old ones die and fall off. We shed skin cells everywhere all the time. P.S., that means that your bed is so covered in them, it's like the Sahara desert in there.

Remember when you were super young, like 5-6, and your skin was always glowing and soft? That's because the turning over of our skin cells were fast and even. As we get older, it gets slower, and can sometimes be patchy. And then it blocks our glow from shining through and instead all people see is
dull skin, no matter how healthy it is.

So if I want glowing fairy skin, I would have to exfoliate everyday, right?

WRONG! If you exfoliate too much, then you're ripping off the essential skin cells, and then your skin will rapidly try to produce more! In that process, the skin will have more oil to produce, ensuring blemishes or greasy skin. Ewww.

I reccomend exfoliating 2-3 times a day to ensure enough sloughing of the skin cells, but also keeping enough skin on. Having skin left to glow would be a gooood idea if you think about it a little.

Exfoliation: It is essential, but not a lot. Less is more! Kind of.

Thanks for listening, gorgeous person, you. I love each and every one of you! (:

Your rambling beauty addict,

Mai
